“Ohne Rand Auch:” Also Without Borders

8 11 2012

After reading the “Too Easy!” blog post, my friend Helga sent me a picture of her “Hawaii” quilt made in 2004. Notice the similarity of design: a dark fabric frames the interior of the quilt and the fabric of the border squares/rectangles echoes the fabric of the squares/rectangles in the quilt’s interior.

Helga received a bundle of Hawaiian fabrics as a hostess gift (Gastgeschenk) from her friend Angie. She included some fabric from her own stash. Inspired by photographs in an old patchwork book, Helga designed the interior of the quilt. The idea for the border developed as she sewed the quilt. For several years Helga displayed “Hawaii” in her dining area, and the quilt is still a favorite.
Thanks, Helga, for sharing your wonderful quilt with us!
