Have you seen the new quilting book “The Blue and the Gray: Quilt Patterns using Civil War Fabrics” by Mary Etherington and Connie Tesene? It is published by That Patchwork Place, Martingale Press, 2013. The tasteful photography captured my attention and lured me to purchase; backdrops include rustic barns and fences with green meadows. The quilts of traditional designs wonderfully showcase the rich color palette of Civil War prints and shirtings. The quilts included in the book are wall quilt and lap quilt sized, but could be expanded to bed quilt size by adding more blocks or increasing the block size.
Some friends from the Eastover bee love Civil War repro fabrics as much as I do. And we love the “Churn Dash Weave” design in this new book. We are planning a fabric swap and weekly show and tell of the blocks we make. I agreed to make the “Churn Dash” block in two sizes so we can agree on the size we prefer. The book instructions call for 63 blocks that finish at 5.” I also made a block that finishes at 7 1/2.”
What size would you prefer?
