House plan options . . .
Have you thought about making the “Charmville” houses in different sizes? The directions published in the Feb./Mar. issue of McCall’s Quick Quilts call for 3″ (finished) Nine Patches and 2″ x 4″ (finished) Flying Geese units for roofs.
If you’d like a larger quilt, you could work with 2″ squares. In this case, you will need a larger roof, i.e. Flying Geese unit. The suggested measurements to cut the rectangle are 3 3/4″ x 7.” For each roof cut 1 rectangle from a print, and cut 2 blue sky 3 3/4″ squares. Follow instructions in the magazine for constructing Flying Geese units. Before attaching the roof to the Nine Patch house, cut and sew sky blue 1 1/2″ x 5″ rectangles to both sides of the house.
You could make a larger house by using 2 1/2″ squares. The cut measurements of the print rectangle for a roof would be 5″ x 9 1/2.” Cut 2 blue sky 5″ squares. Before attaching the roof to the Nine Patch House, cut and sew sky blue 2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles to both sides of the house.
You can create a different roof by trimming off the “beak” of the Flying Geese unit and adding a chimney unit.
Isn’t it nice to have house-building options?
