Berenstain Bears “Colorblock Quilt”

DSCN7432A young friend is having a storybook baby shower this month. I’m celebrating the arrival of this long awaited little one with a Berenstain Bears quilt!

I purchsed the fabric over a year ago at Find X Designs in Sanford, NC. But I notice that Loving Stitches here in Fayetteville also has several bolts of the Moda line of fabric.

The pattern, “Colorblock Quilt,” was designed by Holly DeGroot who blogs at bijoulovelydesigns.com. Click here if you would like to order a pattern. I felt the large scale print of the bears and their tree house was perfectly suited for the vertical panel of the quilt. The coordinating prints perform nicely in the horizontal panels. I modified the pattern just a little bit to fit the motif width of the vertical panel and to maximize the use of the coordinating prints I purchased. For sashing, I selected a random polka dot, white dots on a black field.

I used the remainder of the large scale print on the back of the quilt, flanking it with black polka dot fabric. The quilting is playful and simple:  loops and double loops with curvy meandering in between. Now to shop for a Berenstain Bears book to go with the quilt gift!

As usual this is a wonderful quilt. What a fun way to construct it! It is simple and yet colorful and unique. You always have a different way of designing a great quilt!

There is a book about Mama Bear making quilts and opening a shop to make quilts to sell. Cute book and I think it would be perfect for your adorable quilt.
