Blog Readers Share – April FQ Challenge

23 04 2016

Wait until you see the fun projects blog readers have shared so far in April!

Helga’s daughter is expecting a baby, so she is coaching her grandson, “the big brother,” in making a Sudoku quilt from fat eighths (9″ x 12″). Good for you, Jonathan, we can’t wait to see the finished quilt!

Helga, herself, made a baby size quilt with hand-dyed fabrics. I love the bright orange and red with accents of black. Do you notice the red star in the center? The “Churndashes” combined with arrow-type blocks suggest movement in the quilt. It’s as if the central star is radiating or expanding past the boundaries of the quilt’s edges. The “orange peel” quilting design adds delightful curves to this angular design. Awesome!

Maridee has also been busy making baby quilts. She writes, “These Fall fabrics (were) sent to me by a friend in VA. Trying to get a Christmas and a fall quilt made each month in preparation for Project Linus’ push for those types of quilts later this year. So far I’m ahead of schedule with 16 Christmas quilts and 5 fall ones.  My odds and ends of both fabrics are dwindling!! Finally!” The link to instructions for “Buzz Saw” is on the Patterns page.

Maridee also made “Organized Chaos” with 12″ x 40″ fabric pieces donated by a friend. The placement of the orange squares and rectangles keeps my eyes moving around the quilt! A link to instructions for this design in on the Patterns page as well.

Chris sent a picture of a tote bag. She took apart an aging tote bag and re-used the lining for this new bag. Won’t she be the envy of all the Aldi and Liddl shoppers?

Fun seeing all the projects people are making. I was clearing out my sewing room and thinking about what I could do with some of my fabrics. Then I remember all my UFOs and try to focus there first.
