Independence Day Potpourri

Happy Independence Day! I hope you are celebrating with family and friends as I am. I’m thankful to be an American, and I’m so grateful for our freedoms and religious liberty!

After the cookout is over, if you have some time to sew, here’s a quick table runner idea. The inspiration for the design is from my runner published in McCall’s Quilting July/August 2013. Click here to see the original quilt and to link to a free lap quilt pattern. The fabrics are 2 1/2″ strips from Wilmington Prints “Ruby Red” and “Sapphire Sky” strip packs. You’ll need 3 red strips and 3 blue strips in varying shades; cut these in 6″ and 8″ lengths. You need 18 white 2 1/2″ squares. Refer to the picture for fabric placement, and read the free lap quilt pattern on the McCall’s website for detailed construction information.

Trinity and the grandkids are visiting this month, and we’re having a blast sewing together. Yesterday Krystine worked on her scrappy Nine Patch and Snowball quilt in fall colors. And Trinity completed four more 16″ star blocks for a queen size quilt.

Our retirement house is looking more like a home. The roofing paper is preparation for the next stage – a metal roof. It’s exciting to walk around inside and imagine the finishing of all the rooms including a huge quilting studio, the placement of furniture, and where I’ll hang my decorative quilts.

I love the table runner and your house is looking more wonderful every day.
I watched the baseball game from Fayetteville last night (well, as much as I could before I fell asleep). What a fabulous event!

What a thrill, I bet, to see your house making progress. We were about where you are last year. Now we are settled in with sewing studio fully functional , separate longarm room..and flowers &zucchini in the garden (& still lots of dirt😒). We are definitely having a good 4th; you do the same.
