Sew ‘n’ Sews Retreat

Emily, Colleen and I are off to the beach for a sewing retreat with nine other ladies from our church’s sewing group.

We totally packed out the car with sewing machines, cutting mats, food, fabric, and projects.

Cleo won the retreat lotto blocks last year. We all admired her completed quilt this year.

At our retreat last year we exchanged 6″ Christmas-themed blocks with the goal of showing our projects at this year’s retreat. Some of us made wall or lap quilts; Cheryl made a table runner.

Last year we gave each retreat attendee 1/3 yard of a blue and gold print as a challenge fabric. I included my blue print in my “Unity” quilt (click here to see the quilt). Other projects included a giant star baby quilt, a purse, a pouch, lavender sachets for each person, and Kay’s folded napkin.

Michelle taught us how to cut 60 degree triangles from strip sets to make table runners.

We exchanged 6″ Valentine-themed blocks this year. They are each so unique! It will be fun to create a wall quilt or table runner from the blocks I received.

I packed five or six projects to sew while on retreat and made good progress on some of them. “Narragansett Blues” poses on a chair on an overcast afternoon.

We had such a great time that we’ve already reserved the beach house for a week next September!

  1. Aby, I miss you! It is so wonderful to see your smile! Thank you so much for sharing your trip with us. I am sure it will be a blessed and wonderful time with the other ladies. Take good care and God bless all of you!
    Love, Tanya❤️

    • Thank you, Tanya. Our retreat was so much fun! A blessing in the midst of COVID quarantine. We have all missed getting together to sew on a weekly basis for the past six months. We hope to re-up our group soon, maintaining social distance.
