“Sisters” BOM – November Wrap-Up

Today is THE day! November 30th – time to comment “Done” if you have finished making the 12″ Big Sister and the 6″ Little Sister “Paddle Star” blocks.

Marie shared a picture of her completed blocks. If you remember, she is making all her blocks from Civil War reproduction pink and brown fabrics. She wrote that she is so excited to receive instructions for our final block on December 1st.

Sana also sent a picture of her blocks made with solid fabrics. The tangerine is a vibrant accent for the darker colors!

I have seen several other “Paddle Stars” on Instagram #sistersqal, but IG has suspended some posts in an effort to reduce inflammatory chatter regarding the election. Whether or not you’ve sent or posted a picture, I am so proud of each of you for keeping current with this year-long project!

If you are new to this blog and wonder what the excitement is about, click on “Sisters BOM QAL” in the menu. You will navigate to a page of links to the introduction and instructions for patchwork blocks, month by month. The QAL is free, and should you find yourself with lots of sewing time in December, you can catch up with the other participants.

Now it’s time to comment “Done” and wait on pins and needles for tomorrow’s posting of the instructions for the December block!

    • ((whispers)) The December PDF is already on the Sisters QAL page, Maridee 🙂 I just downloaded it myself not willing to wait LOL

  1. Done!

And am rushing through the stitching of bindings on paid jobs so I can jump on the last block of this QAL! Can’t wait! 🙂 Thank you so much, Aby, for such a fun QAL. This was my first ever time doing one and you’ve gotten me hooked on it. I got so much inspiration from the rest of you doing this QAL. Thank you to everyone who shared pictures and comments to inspire each other. I’m definitely going to do more QALs now.

  2. Dear Abby, First of all…done…I’ve been wanting to write to you for a long time as I have been following you for a few years now. I want to thank you for helping my sister and I connect during this crazy time of Covid. I am in DC and she is in Ohio. We were both looking for a new project and I suggested that we do something together. That is when your darling “Sisters” quilt came to mind. We decided to use the same Layer Cake, but we chose the colors for each block secretly. When we both completed the block, we did the big reveal. It’s been so much fun seeing how different our blocks are turning out. Thank you for this amazing project and bringing my big sister and her little sister together, even though we are miles apart.

I fondly remember sewing with you and learning from you in Germany. The first time we met, however, was on a ski trip with our kids to the Black Forest.
We shared our love of quilting, but I had no idea that you were a designer, teacher, blogger and everything else.

Again, thank you for the inspiration and sharing your love of quilting.

  3. Done! And I second all the comments above thanking you, Aby, for a fun year-long project. It will be so much fun to see everyone’s quilts all put together.

  4. Done. Our Thursday quilters may be quarantined, but we are keeping in touch through our message group. Everyone is enjoying make your sister blocks. We can’t wait to see each other’s blocks.
