Jenny recently emailed me a picture of her “Monkey Shines” placemats. She made them after reading my blog post of October 13, 2020. I love the blue and yellow fabric combination. The large scale lemon print is a favorite, forming the backing for the placemats. Jenny modified the pattern by sewing 2″ strips left over from the fat quarters to opposite sides of the “Monkey Shines” blocks instead of sewing 3″ white strips to the sides as I did.
As a hint to those of you who plan to make the placemat set with a back-to-front binding technique, Jenny advises the following: When machine quilting, be careful to make neat starts and stops because they will show on the back of the placemats.
Thanks for sharing, Jenny!
You will find the instructions for “Monkey Shines,” a fat quarter friendly stack, slice, shuffle, and sew project, on the Patterns page of this blog, and here is a link to the blog post showing my “Monkey Shines” placemats. I’d love to see a picture of your set of placemats or baby quilt.
