More “Scrappy Stars”

Good morning, quilting friends! If you are quilting along on our “Options” block of the month project this year, you have one more week to complete the “Scrappy Stars” for your quilt. As a reminder, on February 28 those who have completed “Scrappy Stars” can comment “done” for a chance to win a quilting magazine.

For inspiration, take a look at the following blocks. First up is a lively block from Jenny B. She chose modern fabrics from Christa Quilts, and she really loves the gray background.

Maridee H. is using brown fabrics from her stash for her “Options” blocks. The stripe and large scale print add interest to the center of the block pictured on the left, don’t you think?

Mary S. also emailed me a photo of her “Scrappy Stars.” She wrote, “I’m using bright colors, which is out of my usual rut, but very cheering these days!” I love the sparkly background fabric; it adds so much fun to the blocks.

Thanks, ladies, for sharing pictures of your “Scrappy Stars.”

You will find background information and instructions for the QAL (quilt along) on the “Options BOM QAL” tab in the menu. I added a document this past week with instructions for the 8″ finished “Hourglass” blocks which I used as alternate blocks in my sample quilt. If you are also planning to separate your patchwork blocks with “Hourglass” blocks, you might like to construct them throughout the year rather than waiting for November and December. Also remember if you want to make a baby quilt, you need to make two blocks per month. If you are aiming for throw size, make three blocks per month, and if you wish to make a bed quilt, make four blocks per month.

If you are on Instagram, you may post pictures of your blocks at #optionsqal. You may also email me a picture of your blocks: aby.quilts@gmail.com.

  1. Done, it was a challenge, but I have them done. A unique way for an Hourglass on the 2nd option. Thanks!

    • Yay, Connie! Are you making a throw or a bed quilt? Be sure to comment “done” on the blog post for Feb. 28 since those are the names that are entered in the drawing for a free magazine. You go!

    • Good for you! I am glad you are venturing into the world of quilt-making. I think you will find this QAL perfect for a beginner. If you do have questions in the next months, be sure to reach out rather than wallowing in frustration. Also, be sure to comment “done” on February 28 because those are the comments that are entered into the drawing for a magazine.
