“Charming Sawtooth” Finished

Are you wondering what to make with the package of 5″ charm squares that you purchased on a whim? The fabrics, so coordinated and pretty, called your name. And now they are sitting on a shelf or in a bin begging to be used. The fabric line that beckoned me was “Birthday” designed by Sarah Watts for Ruby Star Society. And I stumbled upon a You Tube tutorial of a star quilt by Hailey Young that was perfect for the fabrics in the package.

Hailey suggests pairing the fabrics at random for HSTs (half square triangles), but I planned thoughtfully so as to spread the colors evenly throughout the quilt. My design wall was quite handy for keeping the fabric pieces correctly oriented during construction. I quilted the Becker’s Shooting Star pantograph with light teal thread, blending with the border fabric. The backing fabric of brightly colored balloons adds to the festive vibe.

If you would like to make “Charming Sawtooth,” click over to Hailey’s website (www.haileystitches.com). Click “Freebies” in the horizontal menu bar, scroll down to see a picture of her quilt, and download the instructions.

My quilt is on display at Sew There! Quilts and More in Angier, NC. You can order the “Birthday” charm pack as well as coordinating background and border fabric. Give the friendly staff a call: (919) 331-2499
